In the 1880 census, Mary "Ann" Hawley is list as the daughter of William Hawley, age 5, born approximately 1875. The family is living in Wilson, Alpena, Michigan. My assumption has always been that Mary Ann Hawley was the third child, second daughter, of William Hawley and Sarah Anne Healy.
I have found a baptismal record for Mary Ann Holey, born on April 11, 1875, and baptized on December 10, 1875, at St. Bernards Church in Alpena, Michigan.
At this point, you may be wondering why I am even questioning the birth of Mary Ann Hawley. Based on the information already presented, it seems obvious.
My assumptions are that Ellen died sometime before June 3, 1900 (no records found) and that Mary died on December 30, 1894. That would account for 7 children.
- When was Mary Ann Hawley born? 1875 or 1877?
- Did Mary die on December 39, 1894, in Hillman, Montmorency, Michigan?
- If my assumptions, regarding William and Sarah's children, are correct, where are the other 2 children? Where there 2 more children or was the census incorrect?
- Were their two daughters by the name of Mary born to the William Hawley family?
- If it wasn't Mary (born in 1875) that died in 1894, then when and where did Mary Hawley die?
